The Spirit of Chamber Music

For this special concert, we’re taking a different approach and presenting a more intimate, chamber-style experience.

Rather than our usual full symphony format, you’ll hear smaller groups from the orchestra in a varied programme that highlights the richness of each section.

The evening features Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, the light and elegant Suite for 13 Wind Instruments by Strauss, Warlock’s lively Capriol Suite, G. Jacob’s witty Old Wine in New Bottles, and Holst’s ever-charming St. Paul’s Suite.

Each piece offers a chance to hear the musicians in a fresh and personal way, showcasing the colours, character, and energy of these delightful chamber works.

Voix de France

This March, the Huntingdonshire Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir present a French-themed programme of two masterworks. Fauré’s Requiem is unlike any other setting of the mass for the dead: gentle, luminous, and filled with a sense of peace, this is music for comfort.

In contrast, Franck’s Symphony in D minor is a sweeping Romantic statement, full of drama, passion, and soaring melodies that have secured its place as one of the great French symphonies.

Together, these works create a concert of striking contrasts, serenity and consolation alongside power and intensity.

Choral Legacies: Traditions of praise in choral and organ music

The Huntingdonshire Philharmonic Choir presents a programme of radiant 20th-century choral music. Vaughan Williams’s O Clap Your Hands bursts with jubilation, while his Te Deum in G combines grandeur with warmth and lyricism.

The choir is joined by a baritone soloist (Peter Edge) for the much-loved Five Mystical Songs, a glowing setting of George Herbert’s poetry.

Completing the programme is Kodály’s Laudes Organi, a dazzling hymn of praise to the organ and the power of music itself. Together, these works create an evening of uplifting and exhilarating choral sound.
