KINGS and COUNTRYSIDE – ORCHESTRA

Our 2026/27 programme opens with an evocative programme of orchestral masterpieces, beginning with Berlioz’s dramatic King Lear overture. Tchaikovsky’s lyrical Variations on a Rococo Theme follows, featuring Hunts Phil regular Joely Koos on solo cello, before Dvořák’s atmospheric Silent Woods.
After the interval the concert concludes with Dvořák’s radiant and exuberant Symphony No. 8, a celebration of melody, nature and Czech musical character.
REMEMBRANCE – CHOIR
SATURDAY 7 NOVEMBER 2026, 7.30 pm

A deeply moving programme of choral music exploring themes of faith, remembrance and loss.
Vaughan Williams’s Lord, Thou Hast Been Our Refuge and Ireland’s Greater Love lead into Sumsion’s evocative They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships. The first half concludes with Butterworth’s poignant Six Songs from A Shropshire Lad, featuring baritone Caleb Richards.
The second half of the concert presents Matthew Coleridge’s powerful Requiem, bringing together voices and an orchestral ensemble to provide a profound meditation on mortality and hope.

Our ever-popular Christmas concert returns with a joyful celebration for all the family. It features Victor Hely-Hutchinson’s sparkling Carol Symphony and Humperdinck’s enchanting Hänsel und Gretel Prelude.
Craig Courtney’s playful A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas adds plenty of festive fun, alongside a selection of much-loved Christmas favourites and carols.
We also welcome back special guests Stagecoach Huntingdon.

The first of two special concerts to celebrate our 50th anniversary, this concert presents a richly evocative programme spanning impressionism, choral splendour and Romantic drama.
Debussy’s atmospheric Prélude à l’Après-midi d’un faune sets the scene, followed by Handel’s majestic coronation anthem Zadok the Priest and Fauré’s serene Cantique de Jean Racine. Elgar’s evocative Sea Pictures, featuring Mezzo Soprano Suzie Purkis, explores the power and beauty of the sea, before Berlioz’s thrilling Symphonie Fantastique brings the concert to a dramatic and unforgettable conclusion.
THE PASSION OF CHRIST – CHOIR

John Stainer’s beloved sacred oratorio The Crucifixion traces the final hours of Christ’s life through powerful choral writing, expressive solos and reflective congregational hymns. From the drama of the Passion to moments of quiet contemplation, Stainer’s enduring work offers a poignant musical meditation on sacrifice, suffering and redemption.
SPECIAL 50th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT – ORCHESTRA & CHOIR

Join us to celebrate 50 years of the Huntingdonshire Philharmonic with a programme that shines a light on the richness of British music.
Arnold’s lively Serenade for Small Orchestra opens the concert, followed by Vaughan Williams’s much-loved The Lark Ascending, featuring local favourite Farah Ashby on violin.
The concert culminates in Elgar’s majestic The Music Makers – a powerful celebration of creativity, music and the enduring legacy of the artist.
