Huntingdonshire Philharmonic
The Huntingdonshire Philharmonic, affectionately known as Hunts Phil, performs six concerts each year.
We perform a variety of choral and orchestral works to suit every taste. Our Christmas performances are especially popular and include a children's concert.
The Society always welcomes new members and at present is keen to attract additional singers, French horn and string players. The emphasis of rehearsals is that of enjoyment and learning, whilst working to present performances of a high standard to our audiences.
If you are interested in joining Hunts Phil, please email secretary@huntsphil.org.uk
We look forward to performing for you.

Elgar - Cello Concerto
Tippett - A Child of Our Time
Tickets: £12 (concessions/students £6)
Elgar's Cello Concerto is one of his best known and best loved works. Always popular with audiences, and brilliantly and effectively scored, this piece also sums up different elements of Elgar's own character, from the playful scherzo and the occasionally brusque finale to his deep feelings in the very moving adagio. Our outstanding young cellist is Daniel Benn.
After its first performance in March 1944, Tippett's oratorio A Child of Our Time was described as "The most moving and important work by an English composer for many years". Based on the true story of the shooting of a Nazi official in 1938 by a young Jewish boy, the powerful message it carries of oppression, retribution and possible healing is equally relevant today. Oratorio/Passion, aria, recitative and chorus take the action forward, whilst the beautifully arranged American Spirituals comment with devastating simplicity on the truth of the cruel human condition for all ages of Man.
With soloists Philippa Hyde (soprano), Laura Trayhurn (alto), Stephen Jeffes (tenor) and Neil Baker (bass).
